This publication is a guide to the magnificent plants of the high mountains of the Drakensberg and Lesotho in Southern Africa. It illustrates over 1000 wild flowers, trees, shrubs and ferns (with a few grasses). The publication has been authored by Elsa Pooley.

The awe-inspiring scenery, from the sandstone cliffs to the basalt peaks, with frequent snow and ice in winter, is home to high altitude plants known as “alpines”.This mountain region of southern Africa includes Thabo Ntlenana in Lesotho, at 3482m the highest peak south of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Almost 400 species are found here and nowhere else in the world, making it a “hotspot” – a centre of plant diversity of global importance. In 2002 a large part of the area was declared a World Heritage site for the rich diversity of plant and animal life, spectacular natural landscapes and outstanding rock paintings.
